Global advisory firm SLR Consulting has strengthened its built environment team with a series of strategic senior appointments. Shelley Dix joins to lead the firm’s London transport planning team, while Chris Ellis will head up the firm’s environmental impact assessment efforts for London.

SLR is an environmental and advisory consultancy, with a team of more than 5,000 professionals operating from a network of offices in Europe, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Reinforcing its capabilities across London and the wider south-east of England, the firm has bolstered its planning and sustainable infrastructure wings with a string of hires.

Peter Leonard, business lead for London, South-East and East of England, commented, "These appointments represent a significant investment in our London and South-East operations, bringing together a highly experienced team with expertise across transport planning, environmental impact assessment (EIA), master-planning, urban design and sustainable infrastructure. It’s been fantastic to see this new senior group embrace a collaborative culture from day one, offering a first class one-stop built environment consultancy service.”

Shelley Dix brings more than 26 years of experience in transport and development planning, joining SLR to lead and develop the firm’s London transport and mobility planning capability. She will collaborate closely with colleagues throughout the business while helping to strengthen a national transport and mobility team comprising of more than 100 transport planners and specialists.

Dix said, “Transport and mobility planning plays a vital role in shaping successful developments, and I’m excited to be joining SLR as we continue to strengthen our transport and mobility planning offering. By working closely with colleagues across planning, environmental and sustainability disciplines, we can help clients navigate complex development challenges and deliver places that are accessible, sustainable and commercially successful, while always focusing on what is right for the client. This integrated approach is essential across all sectors, ensuring we balance community needs with environmental and commercial considerations.”

Chris Ellis meanwhile joins SLR as London EIA lead, bringing experience across large-scale residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, including brownfield and greenfield sites, strategic master-planning projects and data centre schemes. Working alongside specialists from across the business, he will help grow SLR’s EIA offering and deliver integrated solutions for clients throughout the development process.

Ellis added, “My experience across major development projects has shown that the best results come from a collaborative cross-team approach. At SLR, there is a real opportunity to grow our EIA presence, strengthen client relationships and provide a more complete environmental offering through our integrated approach. The calibre of people joining the team and the collaborative culture we’re building create a real springboard for future growth.”

The investment follows the appointments of planning technical director and London lead Andrew Munton, principal consultant and London EIA lead Chris Ellis, plus director of master-planning and urban design Colin James. Xavier Brice also recently arrived as director of planning and sustainable infrastructure.
