Grant Thornton relocates Cambridge office amid continued growth

The Cambridge team of Grant Thornton is relocating to a new office, at the city’s St John’s Innovation Park. The move reflects the firm’s “long-term commitment to the city”, according to a release from Grant Thornton.

The UK member firm of Grant Thornton is led by nearly 300 partners, and staffed by nearly 5,000 people. Around 123 of these employees account for Grant Thornton’s East Anglia regional wing, while its Cambridge office currently has a local headcount of approximately 100 people.

With Cambridge’s historic ties to education and scientific research, the regional team plays a key role in advancing digital innovation across the UK firm, helping to embed data-led ways of working. This includes the Cambridge office being home to key members of Grant Thornton’s AI and audit lab and digital teams, working to enhance quality through advanced data analytics, artificial intelligence and innovative digital solutions.

The Cambridge office is also home to Grant Thornton’s market-leading corporate finance team in the East of England, which last year advised on fourteen transactions in the region, with a combined value of more than £350 million. Notable transactions included the sale of Ipswich-based data privacy compliance specialist The DPO Centre to Axiom GRC, Cambridge-based Addresscloud securing investment from Kester Capital, and the sale of premium milkshake brand Shaken Udder to Spanish chocolate business Idilia.

The move marks the next chapter in Grant Thornton’s Cambridge presence, providing a future ready office that supports collaboration and innovation. The firm confirmed that the new office has been “designed with sustainability and inclusion at its core” – with a BREEAM “Very Good” certification – while the internal fitout prioritises reuse of existing materials, sustainable furniture and low impact finishes to reduce embodied carbon.

At the same time, the office space maximises efficiency while supporting different working styles – with fully technology enabled meeting rooms, flexible work settings and a dedicated breakout area that can be transformed into an event or training space. The architectural design also places a strong emphasis on wellbeing and inclusion, with accessible layouts and quiet retreat spaces.

Andy Hodgekins, partner and Cambridge practice lead at Grant Thornton, said, “Cambridge has a unique heritage in computing and innovation, so it is a natural home for our digital innovation. Our move to the Maurice Wilkes Building brings together exceptional talent, advanced technology and a modern working environment. The new space enables our specialist teams to design and build bespoke digital tools that enhance quality and deliver deeper insights for our clients. It positions us strongly to help organisations navigate a data-driven world.”
