Accenture expands AWS partnership for public sector

Accenture has grown its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), with the launch of a new set of services for the public sector. Through the Accenture AWS Business Group, the companies will collaborate to help clients deploy cloud and AI services for the reduction of operating costs, and the improvement the of citizen services and defence capabilities.

As a fast-growing subsidiary of internet giant Amazon, Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis. The platform enables clients to grow businesses through alignment with its sales, marketing, funding, capture, and proposal teams.

Accenture has long been a leading AWS partner in the UK and North America, and is the company’s largest global systems integrator (GSI). The partnership has proven fruitful, and in 2021 the consultancy picked up a prize for Best Global Expansion at the AWS Global Public Sector Partner Awards, while earlier this year, Accenture and AWS announced an extension of their partnership to support entrepreneurs win investment.

Now, AWS and Accenture have further grown that partnership, to supply a new set of “AI-powered solutions” running on AWS’ secure infrastructure. The tools focus on navigating workforce transformation, improving the delivery of social services, and mission-driven accelerators.

"Public sector organisations are ready to reinvent using AI to operate more efficiently and better serve citizens," said Jennifer Jackson, AWS Business Group lead at Accenture. "These expanded solutions will help organisations modernise with innovative cloud and AI solutions. This is the first step in reinventing citizen services and boosting defence capabilities, while also building trust and ensuring high standards of security and compliance.”

According to a release from the firms, the collaboration will centre on three areas. Workforce transformation, with AI and agentic solutions allegedly capable of “automating tasks and entire processes and decision-making capabilities” in the public sector; defence, with services designed for high-sensitivity operations will allow defence and national security organisations to rapidly deploy cloud solutions that enhance operational capabilities; and social service and health solutions, where Accenture and AWS say they will “transform how social services and health and human services agencies deliver care through AI-powered case management and data analytics platforms” – enabling “faster benefit determinations”, among other things.

"Citizens today expect the same seamless digital experiences from government services that they enjoy from commercial platforms," added Rishi Bhaskar, director, worldwide public sector partnerships at AWS. "Through this strategic collaboration with Accenture, we’re helping public service organisations deliver those experiences by enabling innovation through transformative technologies, while also helping them operate more efficiently in today’s challenging landscape."
