Shannon Dowdles named partner in RSM Aberdeen office
Audit and advisory firm RSM has appointed Shannon Dowdles as a partner in its corporate tax team. Based in Aberdeen, she takes on the role as the firm works to boost its offering to the energy sector.
Dowdles commented, “It’s great to be joining RSM in Aberdeen at such a key time for the sector and city. I love the fact that my role gives me a window into so many businesses within the energy sector, and it’s a privilege to support them in assessing and implementing their plans. I’m looking forward to growing Aberdeen’s corporate tax team, and working collaboratively with colleagues across RSM to provide a responsive, integrated service that delivers real value and clarity for clients as they pursue their business goals.”
RSM has been undergoing a major period of growth in the Granite City in recent years. In 2024, its team of 50 moved to a new 5,000 square feet of space on the fourth floor of The Capitol, on Union Street. The space offers the chance to grow that headcount to 75, over the course of RSM’s nine-year lease.
Dowdles is a chartered tax adviser with over 20 years of experience advising large businesses in the energy sector on domestic and international tax, including the UK Continental Shelf. She will support clients throughout the UK, advising on an array of corporate tax issues including entry into the UK, tax provisioning and compliance, optimising tax attributes and incentives, tax implications of structuring and financing, tax governance and engaging with HMRC.
She brings two decades of Big Four experience to the role, having commenced her career as a tax advisor with Deloitte, before moving to EY where she progressed through the ranks to partner. She has also worked in industry as a tax director for an international drilling company. She has a first-class honours degree from the University of Aberdeen.
Ross Stupart, regional managing partner, RSM UK, remarked, “I’m thrilled to welcome Shannon to the team at such a pivotal time for the energy and natural resources sector. Her experience will no doubt prove invaluable as we strengthen our team and support our UK and International clients involved in the sector.”
