HKA expert Alex Lee to chair Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists
HKA Partner Alex Lee has been appointed as the chair of the Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists. He brings three decades of expertise to the role.

The Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists (AGS) is a leading UK-based professional body dedicated to promoting excellence in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering. With a growing membership and active industry engagement, the AGS produces policy and guidance documents, hosts webinars and conferences, and facilitates working group meetings to support its members and the wider sector.
A release from HKA stated the appointment reflected Lee’s “longstanding commitment to advancing the geoenvironmental sector through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and sustainable development.” As a chartered geologist, European geologist, and chartered scientist with 27 years of experience in land contamination, risk assessment, and remediation, he has also held various industry chair roles, including outgoing chair of the UK National Brownfield Forum and former chair of the Society of Brownfield Risk Assessors.
At HKA, he remains the global lead for environment and climate change within the firm’s global forensic engineering, architecture, and technical services team. Alex provides expert witness advice and directs a range of specialisms across air, land, water, and climate. He has delivered testimony on cases worth up to £700 million.
Lee added, “It is an honour to serve as Chair of the AGS, an organisation that continues to grow in reach, relevance, and impact. My focus will be on consolidating the excellent work achieved, taking over from hydrogeologist Vivien Dent of the Environment Agency, while ensuring we remain responsive to our members’ evolving needs. My role as chair is to strengthen and consolidate what has already been achieved. It is not about imposing change, but about listening, enabling collaboration, and delivering clear, accessible guidance.”
