RSM adds Stephen Harrison to risk and governance team in Scotland

Audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has recruited Stephen Harrison into its UK outfit. Joining the firm’s risk and governance team in Scotland, he will lead its technology risk and internal controls function.

Alex Tait, head of risk and governance for RSM in the UK, commented, “Stephen’s appointment is a key milestone in our risk and governance growth journey. His experience across both professional services and industry brings a holistic and pragmatic perspective that’s invaluable to our clients. As businesses increasingly invest in AI and digital solutions, Stephen’s skillset will be integral in helping them manage emerging risks and embed good governance.”

With a career spanning over 24 years, Harrison’s arrival reinforces the firm’s technology risk and governance capabilities in Scotland, and throughout the UK. As head of technology risk and internal controls for RSM across the country, his appointment reflects RSM’s strategic focus on expanding its consulting capabilities in highly regulated industries and supporting clients through digital transformation.

Harrison was most recently with Johnston Carmichael, where he was a partner in technology risk and assurance. Previous experiences include a three-year spell as a director with KPMG, as well as leading controls testing at RBS, and spending 14 years with EY, where he was latterly a senior manager.

Previous experience

Throughout his career, these roles have enabled Harrison to cultivate extensive financial service and large corporate experience. He has advised boards and c-suites on regulatory compliance, technology process improvement, change risk, and data risk assurance, among other subjects.

Speaking on his new role, Harrison added, “I’m excited to join RSM at a time of significant investment and momentum. The firm’s breadth of services and level of expertise provide a strong platform from which to grow our risk assurance services in Scotland and nationally. It’s a rare opportunity to build something impactful, while also drawing on the strength of the national team. I look forward to helping clients navigate the evolving regulatory landscape and harness new technology responsibly to strengthen their control environments.”

RSM recognises Scotland as one of the firm’s fastest-growing regions. The appointment also underscores RSM’s commitment to delivering advisory services and expanding its risk assurance footprint in the Scottish market.
