Lucy Howard and Vince Lydon appointed co-chairs of Constructing Excellence

Lucy Howard, UK major bids lead at Turner & Townsend, and Vince Lydon, managing director at McLaren, have been appointed co-chairs of Constructing Excellence. Their leadership will be key in pushing forward the organisation’s mission to improve industry performance.

Lucy Howard said, “Being appointed as co-chair of Constructing Excellence is a great honour. I am passionate about collaborating across our industry to drive greater efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. By working together to share our perspectives and knowledge we can navigate a complex landscape of emerging best practice and embrace the opportunities of adapting our UK built environment to meet societies’ needs. I look forward to working with all stakeholders to transform our industry for the better.”

Howard brings over two decades of experience delivering complex infrastructure programmes, and now has a strong focus on inclusive leadership, digital transformation, and sustainable delivery. She has played a key role in shaping industry best practice through her involvement in the Project 13 initiative designed to develop enterprise-based business models, and is the co-author of the Programmes with Purpose report, created in partnership with the CBI to provide guidance for the Government Major Projects Portfolio. She is also an active member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Vince Lydon meanwhile is one of the UK’s most experienced construction management leaders, with a four-decade career delivering some of the country’s most complex and high-profile schemes. He brings extensive experience from across the construction sector includes a track record of delivering major projects and driving cultural change. As managing director at McLaren, he leads construction management and specialist projects at the firm.

Lydon commented, “I’m delighted to be appointed as co-chair of Constructing Excellence alongside Lucy and Phil. I very much look forward to working with the national members and wider movement to drive meaningful change in the sector. With the 10 Year Infrastructure Strategy and significant investments in the industry we have an opportunity to implement the Constructing Excellence principles to deliver better outcomes. I look forward to working with all those involved in Constructing Excellence to drive the movement forward.”

The appointments come at a time of significant transformation for the sector, with Constructing Excellence playing a key role in supporting the Construction Playbook, advancing net zero goals, and fostering a more collaborative industry culture. The industry body brings together a cross-discipline group which works to shape best practice, and drive innovation and collaboration across the built environment through regional and national initiatives.
