Charities Pensions Club appoints First Actuarial as actuarial partner

The Charities Pensions Club - a group of not-for-profit organisations which shares information and guidance about pensions - has appointed First Actuarial as its partner. The professional services firm will now work to support events around the year, while helping the organisation navigate challenges to the third sector in 2025.
Chloe Scragg, Director of the Charities Pensions Club, commented, “First Actuarial’s strong presence in the not-for-profit sector really stands out, and I’m confident that they’ll understand our members’ needs. Their proactive outlook will work well with the CPC, which is a small and dynamic organisation. They’ve got lots of good ideas.”
The Charities Pensions Club (CPC) is a member-based organisation which partners with specialist organisations to help not-for-profit organisations provide high-quality pensions. In many cases, according to Scragg, a single person, such as a finance director or HR manager, will be managing pension provision – but the CPC brings these people together, to provide a supportive peer network and connect them to specialist partners for help.
First Actuarial’s client base already includes more than 200 not-for-profit organisations, such as charities, independent schools and housing associations. Now, as a partner of the CPC, it will actively participate in events around the year, hosting a hybrid seminar on a subject chosen by members and speaking at the CPC’s annual conference.
Scragg noted, “My early impressions are that First Actuarial are proactive and energetic. Their understanding of the sector comes across clearly. And they’re sensitive to the reputational risks and resource constraints that charities face in managing their pension schemes. I’ve got high hopes for our partnership.”
First Actuarial’s guiding principle in its work with not-for-profit organisations and charities is to strike the right balance between pension benefits and charitable aims, according to a release from the firm. Looking ahead, the firm expects its work with the CPC will also help to deepen its understanding of the third sector, “benefiting both CPC members and our own clients.”
Dale Walmsley, partner at First Actuarial, concluded, “We build client relationships based on value rather than fee generation, an approach which aligns with the not-for-profit ethos. We plan to use our pension expertise to share knowledge and drive debate in the CPC community around key developments such as The Pensions Regulator’s new funding code.”
