Regulatory expert Dermot Nolan joins advisory board of Brevia Energy
Dermot Nolan has joined the advisory board of Brevia Energy. The former CEO of Ofgem will help the utilities advisory firm to aid its clients as they adapt to new energy regulations.
“Dermot’s experience as CEO of Ofgem and his strong knowledge of energy regulation will be a major asset to our energy clients,” commented David Beamer, managing director of Brevia Energy.
Brevia Energy is a dedicated division of Brevia Consulting, developed to help support clients in the energy sector. Over the last 25 years, the consultancy has worked to provide public affairs and public relations support to energy businesses of all sizes, from innovative start-ups to FTSE 100 companies.
Helping the firm to strengthen that offering for the coming period, Nolan arrives with extensive knowledge of how energy policy and regulatory decisions are made as well as an understanding of the business needs of energy companies. In particular, he has a deep understanding of the politics of energy and how organisations should deal with political and regulatory risk.
Prior to joining the advisory board of Brevia Energy, Nolan served as CEO of Ofgem, the UK energy regulator. Prior to that six-year spell, he was also head of the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, the Irish energy and water regulator, for over five years.
As leader of these two high-profile regulators for nearly 12 years, Nolan gave numerous media interviews as well as making many appearances before Parliamentary Committees. Since leaving Ofgem, he has advised organisations in the energy sector as well as serving as a non-executive director and pursuing academic interests. He now joins David Porter and Angela Love on the Brevia Energy advisory board.
Speaking on his new challenge, Nolan added, “I was aware of Brevia’s work in the energy sector during my time at Ofgem and spoke at a number of their excellent roundtables that they organise with key stakeholders in the sector. I look forward to working with Brevia’s energy team and supporting their clients.”
