Professional services firm Kroll has announced the appointment of Angela Barkhouse to its offshore restructuring practice. Barkhouse will head up the division, while also co-leading its growing business in the Cayman and British Virgin Islands.

The Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands are British overseas territories in the Caribbean, which hosts a zero-percent taxation policy; with no capital gains tax, gift tax, inheritance tax, sales tax or value-added tax across the islands. As such, this has long allowed businesses to set up offshore companies there as a means of paying less tax. This attraction of large companies and financial operators in turn provides opportunities for professional services firms, offering their advisory and restructuring knowhow to lucrative offshore entities. Among that long list are Teneo, Alvarez & Marsal, and Quantuma.

Kroll has been building out its own presence in the area of late, too. Kroll has restructuring teams in all key financial centers including major offshore jurisdictions the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Jersey, Guernsey, Gibraltar and Bermuda. Its operations in the Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands are headed by Mitchell Mansfield – who will now be joined by Angela Barkhouse as co-lead, allowing Mansfield to further develop Kroll’s growing funds and asset management practice around the world.

Cosimo Borrelli, co-head of restructuring at Kroll, stated, “Mitchell and I are delighted to welcome Angela to Kroll. Angela brings a wealth of asset recovery, insolvency, project management and litigation expertise. As demand for the analysis and execution of multi-jurisdictional asset tracing, repatriation, and litigation assignments continues to grow, Angela will play a pivotal role in further enhancing our pre-eminent offshore credentials.”

Meanwhile, Barkhouse will also lead Kroll’s wider offshore restructuring business internationally. Based in the Cayman Islands, she will be focused on growing the business investigations, forensics and asset recovery services where she will also be joined by the team of Richard Templeman, Toni Shukla, Phillip Pierson, Charlotte Reaney and Asha Karia-Patel.

Prior to arriving with Kroll, Barkhouse has enjoyed a career that spans nearly two decades, and has worked with governments, law firms, banks, asset managers and corporations on complex cross-border projects, often involving fraud, bribery, corruption and asset tracking and recovery. Most recently, she was the head of Caribbean cross border asset recovery at Quantuma.

Barkhouse, who becomes a managing director at Kroll, commented, “I am very excited to be joining an established and well-respected team with Kroll in the Caribbean and the wider Kroll team internationally. I look forward to sharing new ideas and experience in a familiar environment, whilst leveraging Kroll’s depth of experience and effectiveness.”
