PwC UK has enhanced its restructuring and insolvency team with the hire of Sarah O’Toole. Joining as a partner, she will operate from the firm’s Manchester office.

Claire Reid, head of restructuring and forensics at PwC UK, commented, “Sarah is a great addition to our team, demonstrating our continued investment in our Restructuring and Forensics practice. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise, as well as a passion for innovation and client service. Sarah’s appointment demonstrates our commitment to bringing in top talent, alongside our investment in GenAI and other cutting-edge technologies, which will help us address the complex and evolving needs of our clients. We are committed to investing across our businesses, and Sarah's appointment reflects our confidence in the growth potential and opportunities in the Restructuring and Insolvency market.

As the UK economy continues to flirt with recession, high interest and inflation rates are among a number of headwinds businesses have to deal with. This also includes energy costs and supply chain issues, relating to geopolitical conflicts and Brexit. Recent studies suggest this could lead to as many as 35,000 businesses entering administration across the UK in 2024.

At a time when there is an increase in restructuring activity, her appointment is central in continuing the firm’s efforts to guide clients through persistent financial pressures.

O’Toole said of her appointment, “I’m delighted to join PwC at such a critical time for the many businesses across the UK and beyond. I’m looking forward to applying more than 20 years of experience guiding firms through financial headwinds, alongside working with financial institutions to put in place the investment which allows our clients to survive - and also maintain and grow their positions.”
