Public sector consultancy Impower has appointed a new executive director in its UK team. Mark Lloyd joins the firm, after more than eight years at the helm of a national association for local authorities.

The UK’s public sector is the second largest market for consulting services in the UK. With the demands of Brexit, the pandemic, the digitalisation agenda, and economic turbulence all seeing the Government spread thin, state institutions have increasingly turned to external advisory professionals for support.

Amid this, Impower is looking to increase its capacity, and expertise. Arriving to help do this is Mark Lloyd, who joins as an executive director. Looking ahead, his focus will be to develop new relationships and business opportunities for Impower.

Sean Hanson, the CEO of Impower, commented, “I’m delighted to be working closely with Mark again and know that he will not only bring his wealth of experience but will also inspire the Impower team. I know that this will fit well with Mark’s ambitions for this important next stage in his career. From our early discussions Mark understood and shared our vision for a transformed public sector, and I am confident that together we can make it happen. With such strong growth and new propositions, it’s a great time to join the team and be part of the next part of our journey”.

Impower is a consulting firm which specialises in helping public sector entities with transformation agendas, and as such, it has been in keen demand of late.It has worked with more than 140 councils, health bodies and other local organisations since 2000, supporting public bodies to provide better outcomes with lower costs.

Adding Lloyd fits with the company’s 24-year legacy as a public sector transformation partner, drawing on his own considerable experience and extensive local government network. For the last eight years, for example, Lloyd was the CEO of the Local Government Association, making him the organisation’s second longest-serving chief. He took on that national leadership role after a decade running two councils.

Speaking on his new challenge with Impower, Lloyd added, “I’m a long-time admirer of Impower, having known and worked with colleagues over the years. I am excited about the prospect of working with a dynamic consultancy that is focused on delivering better outcomes that cost less. I have been impressed at the examples I’ve seen of real transformation they have delivered across our sector, changing whole systems and countless individual lives.”
