Michael Spencer joins MHA Moore and Smalley as partner
Accounting and advisory firm MHA Moore and Smalley has appointed Michael Spencer as a partner within its Liverpool office. Specialising in tax consulting, he brings more than 12 years of professional services experience to the role.
Speaking on his appointment, Spencer said, “I was excited by the opportunity to be part of dynamic firm with clear growth ambitions and a client-centred way of doing things that aligns with my own approach to supporting clients. My approach is all about spending time with clients to understand their business priorities and family wealth objectives, and then providing them with pragmatic and commercial tax advice that helps them to achieve their goals.”
Originally from Peterborough, Spencer has lived in Liverpool since 2011. After initially working in the tax team of EY’s Liverpool office, he spent the last nine years with Grant Thornton – and was most recently a tax director. As well as being a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and former chairman of the Institute’s Merseyside branch, he is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.
Looking ahead, he will support MHA Moore and Smalley’s clients with broad range of tax advice with a particular emphasis on business restructuring, exit readiness, succession planning and wealth protection. He will work alongside tax partner Tony Reddin and senior tax manager Michael Court in the firm’s Liverpool-based team, as well as supporting the firm’s wider tax team in the north-west region.
Andrew Matthews, partner in MHA Moore and Smalley’s Liverpool office, said, “Michael is a hugely experienced tax advisor and will provide invaluable support to the entrepreneurial leaders and businesses that we advise right across Liverpool, the North West and North Wales.”
MHA Moore and Smalley is part of MHA, a UK wide network of independent accountants and business advisers with 18 offices nationwide. MHA collectively employs 106 partners, 1,152 staff and has a combined turnover of £142 million. The appointment of Spencer takes MHA Moore and Smalley’s tax team in the north-west region to 55 members, which includes eight partners and seven directors. He also brings the total number of partners at the firm to 30.
