Capgemini lands new four-year deal to support Heathrow
IT and technology consultancy Capgemini has secured a new four-year contract with Heathrow Airport. The deal will see the firm work to help the airport offer increased personalisation and support to its customers.
Heathrow Airport is the main international airport serving London. In 2022, Heathrow handled approximately 61.6 million passengers, up from 19.4 million recorded in the previous year, and as the lockdowns of the pandemic fade from memory, that number looks set to grow further in the years to come.
With demand on the rise, the role of technology experts in ensuring the smooth running of the airports digital systems is crucial. To that end, Capgemini has been working with Heathrow for more than a decade – and in 2021 it was additionally tasked with delivering a digital transformation agenda, including the automation of complex airport operational systems to next-gen cloud technologies.
After successfully undertaking that task, Capgemini has now been handed a further extension of its contract, taking the 14-year engagement up to 2027. Working together, Capgemini will continue to assist Heathrow to deliver a bespoke airport experience for passengers, by offering up a supplier marketplace, an ecosystem and platform called ‘One Heathrow’, which connects passengers with suppliers.
Bill Twibill, vice president for travel and transportation at Capgemini, said, “Through our previous work with Heathrow we learned that agility is vital. By adopting a collaborative, agile delivery model we were able to work together to pivot rapidly when required and continue to deliver results that matter most to Heathrow.”
As a new addition to the scope, Capgemini will also work with Salesforce to introduce a greater level of personalisation to the passenger experience. Using Salesforce Data Cloud and Marketing Cloud, the experts will collaborate to better utilise customer data and analytics – while Capgemini assists Heathrow in re-launching its VIP service which offers bespoke solutions to high profile travelers.
Bob Stickland, head of technology commercial and digital platforms at Heathrow, commented, “Capgemini has demonstrated over the past decade that it understands and is committed to our vision of providing the best experience for passengers travelling through our airport, while also being able to overcome challenges and deliver true technological change.”
Capgemini is among the firms listed by Consultancy.UK’s 2023 industry rankings. The firm received platinum ratings in the digital, business intelligence, cloud and cyber-security categories.
