Global consultancy AlixPartners has strengthened its turnaround and restructuring team in the UK, with the appointment of a new managing director. Former McKinsey & Company partner Julian Gething brings more than three decades of professional services expertise to the role.

Esben Christensen, co-head of company advisory and interim management at AlixPartners, said, “The market for experienced restructuring professionals is incredibly competitive.  I am delighted that Julian saw the benefits of joining AlixPartners, which we firmly believe has the broadest and deepest bench of CROs in the European market.”

Following the pandemic, many businesses in the UK have struggled to recoup their losses, while some have also found themselves being pursued by the UK’s tax authorities over postponed payments during the lockdown months. This has seen a heightened number of firms fall into financial distress in the past two years.

Julian Gething joins AlixPartners as managing director

Founded in 1981, AlixPartners is a global consulting firm that specialises in helping businesses and investors successfully address complex and critical challenges. In particular, it is known for its offering in restructuring and insolvency procedures.

The arrival of Gething in AlixPartners’ London practice strengthens the firm’s business's  company advisory and interim management practice notably. A renowned chief restructuring officer (CRO), the new managing director and partner and is considered one of the most knowledgeable experts in the European market, bringing over three decades of experience advising clients in complex restructurings.

Anthony Place, the other co-head of company advisory and interim management at AlixPartners, added, “Having worked with Julian for many years as my former partner at THM, I know the material benefits, for both our clients and our people, of having someone of Julian’s significant experience in the team. Times are getting tougher for our clients and having the most experienced people in the market will be critical.”

Prior to joining AlixPartners, Gething was a partner with global strategy consultancy McKinsey & Company. He also spent time in senior roles with THM Partners and Arthur Anderson. During that time, he has served as the CRO of Survitec Group, and for Endeka Ceramics & Zircosil Holdings.

Gething himself commented on his appointment via a LinkedIn post, stating, “I am thrilled to share that I am starting my new chapter at AlixPartners as a partner and managing director, joining their exceptional global restructuring practice. With over 35 years of experience in complex debtor-side restructuring and corporate finance, I am looking forward to contributing my expertise to the firm and our clients and excited for the journey ahead at AlixPartners.”
