Multinational professional services firm AECOM has launched another new office in the UK. The firm’s new Salford locale, opened by Greater Manchester’s Mayor Andy Burnham, is now home to around 580 staff.

AECOM is a multinational infrastructure consulting firm, with approximately 51,000 global employees. To provide advisory and project management services to clients in the UK, AECOM also has a team of staff based across seven British offices, taking on UK and international projects.

As it looks to bolster its offering to clients across the North West of England, the consultancy has opened the doors to a new presence at 100 Embankment, in Salford. The location links AECOM with its people and clients across the City of Greater Manchester, as the region’s growing technology hub continues to attract talent and investment from across the UK.

AECOM Europe and India Chief Executive Colin Wood commented, “This has been a hugely exciting move for AECOM and there is a palpable buzz in the office as staff enjoy the workplace interior, its location and views over the city. Our staff get to make a meaningful impact in their own City Region, as the centre of the North, driving sustainable change. I’m immensely proud of our new office and know the work undertaken there will contribute enormously locally and support delivery of the Northern Powerhouse vision, particularly in terms of skills and global competitiveness.”

The new office will position AECOM to service clients on projects such as the University of Salford, Liverpool Royal NHS University Trust, Greater Manchester Combined Authority, Golborne Station Masterplan and the Greater Manchester Bee Network Cycling and Walking improvements.

The locale has also undergone an interior revamp to support reflect and celebrate the local community and culture in the workplace. The office will also offer flexible, hybrid work options for all employees through the consultancy’s Freedom to Grow initiative, which supports employees in finding the balance and flexibility they need to feel comfortable at work, and deliver the best results for clients.

Salford launch

The 20,000 square feet site is owned by Salford City Council. This saw AECOM host a launch event for the new office, attended by a number of leading local government officials.

Paul Dennett, elected City Mayor of Salford, said, “Our vision in supporting the creation of 100 Embankment was this to transform a derelict space into high quality, green office space where workers can thrive, creating jobs and extra wealth for Salford and Greater Manchester. I’m delighted to welcome AECOM to their new home.”

The Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, was also in attendance to welcome another consulting firm to the growing cluster of professional services firms heading to the region. This includes Big Four giant Deloitte, and IT consultancy CGI.

Burnham commented, “To have AECOM enhancing their presence here in Salford is another strong vote of confidence in our city-region. We’re the fastest growing digital and tech hub in Europe, and we’re using our unique devolved powers to deliver an ambitious vision for everything from technical education to a London-style integrated public transport system, creating new opportunities for businesses, investors, and everyone who lives and works here. Our partners recognise what this place has to offer right now and can also see the journey we’re on, and it’s great to see AECOM renewing their own commitment to Greater Manchester today.”

Earlier in the year, AECOM also bolstered its offering in a technology hub in Scotland. The firm’s locale in Glasgow was part of a raft of refurbishments across Europe for the infrastructure consulting firm.
