Donnie MacLeod hired as Managing Director at KPMG

Donnie MacLeod has been appointed as a Managing Director in KPMG’s London office. Working in the firm’s energy M&A team, MacLeod’s appointment comes as demand for consulting in the sector continues to grow.

While demand for merger and acquisitions has fallen in the UK market over the last year, some segments are still enjoying heightened interest. As investors look to diversify their portfolios to insulate themselves from economic turbulence, the energy sector – which continues to enjoy record profits, amid heightened gas and oil prices – is proving particularly attractive. At the same time, consultants with knowledge of the sector are increasingly being called upon to advise on such deals.

Gavin Quantock, Partner and co-head of KPMG UK’s energy lead advisory team, said, “I’m delighted to welcome Donnie to our growing team as we continue to invest in our Energy M&A practice. Donnie’s wealth of experience and strong track record in M&A and the energy sector will be invaluable in strengthening our unique offering. The demand for renewable energy investment continues to be strong and M&A is right at the heart of this.”

Donnie MacLeod, Managing Director, KPMG.

KPMG’s UK energy M&A team is located in London, and forms part of the firm’s deal advisory practice. It includes established teams of valuation, M&A, debt advisory and transaction advisory professionals, as well as special situations, working capital optimisation and business transformation teams. That multi-disciplinary expertise enables KPMG’s energy lead advisory team to help clients to play their role in the energy transition by providing bespoke advice, sector insight and deal origination and execution.

Commenting on his appointment as a Managing Director, MacLeod added, “It is great to join KPMG and be part of a leading team driving transactions at an important time in the energy transition. I’m looking forward to using my experience to help clients navigate the opportunities and challenges that they face.”

MacLeod joins from Standard Chartered, where he spent five years as a senior energy M&A banker advising energy clients in Europe and the US. Prior to that he was an energy focused financier at Deloitte for over 10 years.

He joins the energy M&A team, led by partners Gavin Quantock and Adrian Scholtz, which now boasts 35 energy advisers – and plans to expand further. MacLeod will now gocus on advising energy and renewables clients on their involvement in the global energy transition.

ESG factors, such as the energy transition, are increasingly becoming integrated into investment and M&A decision making. This also means that sustainability consultants are enjoying record demand, as environmental and social challenges cause businesses to pivot their business models.
