Saffery Champness has announced the appointment of Gareth Norris as partner in its Peterborough office. He will focus on supporting owner-managed corporate businesses and not-for-profit organisations.

Professional services firm Saffery Champness is a historic entity, with offices in the UK, Guernsey, Switzerland and China, among other locales. Since its foundation in 1855, the firm has grown to provide financial, tax and business advisory work for clients around the world. As the firm prepares to help clients to adapt for a period of economic turbulence, it has recruited a new expert to its UK team.

Joining in Saffery Champness’ Peterborough office, Gareth Norris’ expertise covers accounts preparation, internal and external audit, and reviews of internal controls. An experienced audit expert, he has been leading audit engagements as a responsible individual (RI) since 2016.

With Saffery Champness, Norris will work with the Peterborough team to provide audit, accounting and advisory services to the firm’s unique client base. This includes entrepreneurial businesses, landed estates and not-for-profit organisations.

Matthew Burton, Managing Partner of Saffery Champness, commented, “Gareth has an outstanding track record of advising clients through the constantly evolving and ever-more complex reporting landscape. His arrival represents another milestone in what has been a period of growth for the Peterborough office over recent years, reflecting both the talent and diligence of our team, and the growing economic significance of the region, which continues to see heavy investment and dynamic entrepreneurial activity.”

Since qualifying in 2007, Norris has provided audit and accounting services to clients across a wide range of industries and sectors, including landed estates and agriculture, food and beverage, construction and real estate, as well as not-for-profit organisations from national charities to membership organisations, independent schools and academy trusts. Most recently, Norris was a Director with Grant Thornton. He was also an RI within the company’s audit practice, and a leader of its national not-for-profit team.

Speaking on his appointment, Norris added, “Saffery Champness has an enduring reputation for depth of expertise and commitment to client service, both of which are clearly embedded in the culture and of the Peterborough office. I am passionate about delivering exceptional client service and excited to work in partnership with my new colleagues to provide cutting-edge solutions for our clients, which include a significant number of innovative, entrepreneurial businesses.”
