Grant Thornton promotes Norman Armstrong as Thames Valley lead
Grant Thornton has appointed Norman Armstrong as its new Thames Valley and Southampton Practice Leader. Armstrong brings three decades of knowhow to the role, and will head up the regional team of more than 300 staff.

Grant Thornton’s offices in Reading, Oxford and Southampton deliver audit, tax and advisory solutions to business and their management teams across the region with high client satisfaction. The combined Thames Valley regional team is home to 350 experts.
The team is currently working to help clients overcome many pressures, ranging from inflation, the cost-of-living crisis, supply chain issues, among others. While this is seeing the Thames Valley team grow with heightened demand across a variety of sectors, tech and ESG focused firms are particularly in the spotlight.
Armstrong added, “We have invested in new locations in Reading and Oxford this year and are ambitious about further developing our teams across our offices. In his new role, Armstrong will be responsible for leading and developing Grant Thornton’s regional team. He takes over from Jim Rogers, the previous practice leader in this region, who will retain ownership of local market focused activities in the Thames Valley and Southampton.
A former EY professional, Armstrong arrived at Grant Thornton in 2003, and brings more than 30 years of experience to the role. Key responsibilities include being on the Partner Governance Board for Grant Thornton, national leadership of the firm’s focus on Audit and Assurance services for private equity backed clients and leading the Audit team of over 170 people across the Thames Valley and Southampton.
