Capita appoints Claire Denton as new Chief General Counsel

Capita has announced that Claire Denton has been appointed to the role of Chief General Counsel and Company Secretary. She brings over two decades of experience to the role.

Speaking on the news, Denton said, “I’m excited to be joining Capita as the company continues to transform; and I look forward to being part of the team.”

A Chief General Counsel is a company's main attorney and primary source of legal advice, and typically reports directly to the CEO, as their opinions are integral to business decisions. This is the case with Denton, who will report directly to leader Jon Lewis.

Commenting on her arrival, Lewis noted, “I am delighted to welcome Claire to Capita. Her considerable skills and wide-ranging experience at a range of companies will be of great benefit to the organisation.”

Joining officially from March 2022, Denton will be responsible for Capita’s legal function and company secretariat. She will also sit on the company’s Executive Committee.

Prior to arriving with Capita, Denton worked for FTSE 100 technology provider Aveva, where she was general counsel and company secretary for the past six years. Preceding this announcement, Aveva in turn hired former Vodafone UK General Counsel, Helen Lamprell, to fill Denton’s role.

Including her time with Aveva, Denton has more than 20 years of experience working in the legal profession. After qualifying as a solicitor, she also previously worked for Numerica Group, Interserve and Hughes Network Systems Europe. Her hire follows the departure of Francesca Todd, who leaves Capita at the end of 2021 after over 15 years.

Lewis added of the outgoing Todd, “Francesca has made a huge contribution in the 15 years she has spent at Capita. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank her for all her hard work and commitment; we wish her all the best for the future.” Richard Swan will be Acting Company Secretary until Claire Denton’s arrival at Capita.”
