Professional services firm BDO has named a new Partner in its Thames Valley team. Ros Payne is a tax specialist, who arrives from a Big Four consulting and accounting firm.

Speaking on the news, Payne noted, “The Thames Valley and surrounding region is home to a diverse and ambitious business landscape. These businesses have remained incredibly resilient despite the challenges of the last 20 months. I am delighted to be joining the team at BDO and to continue working with some of these entrepreneurial businesses and their investors as the UK economy begins to recover from the impacts of the pandemic and look ahead to growth.”

BDO is one of the largest audit and advisory firms in the Thames Valley, and provides a comprehensive range of accounting, tax, advisory and business services to clients across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, North Hampshire and the surrounding area. Based in Reading, in offices in the Thames Tower and the R+ facility, the firm’s staff work with organisations to provide ideas, insight and expertise.

As a Tax Partner, Payne brings over 18 years of experience to the Thames Tower office, advising clients on all aspects of tax transactions. In her new role with BDO, she will support transactionally active businesses in and around the Thames Valley to execute their transaction strategy.

Payne was most recently an Associate Partner in the international tax wing of EY, where she was also based in Reading. She spent a total of nine years with the Big Four firm, and also spent time working with the tax practices of rival PwC, and Grant Thornton. During those spells, she accrued expertise in due diligence, tax structuring and share purchase agreements, and also in advising international PE-backed tech businesses, institutional investors and large corporates.

David Brookes, Head of BDO in the Thames Valley, remarked, “I am pleased to be able to welcome Ros to the firm today. Her wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the region will be a huge asset to our team and help further cement our position as a leading advisor in the Thames Valley.”

Since January 2021, BDO has appointed 18 external and 20 internal individuals as partner across its UK wing. In June, for example, BDO appointed Duncan Chandler to its national mergers and acquisitions team, bringing more than 20 years of experience to the firm. Meanwhile, in July, Michael Stallard and Fiorenza Onekawa also joined as partners.
