Nick Bush has been appointed to succeed Calvert Markham as Director of the Centre for Management Consulting Excellence. He takes on the role having been an Associate Director with the organisation since 2018.

Run by volunteers drawn from the Worshipful Company of Management Consultants (WCMC), the Centre for Management Consulting Excellence (CMCE) is a learned society established to facilitate sharing of know-how and to promote research of value to the practice of consultancy. Having been launched in 2017, the CMCE aims to share academic research and practitioner experience to the benefit of the consulting community.

Since 2017, the organisation has been headed by Director Calvert Markham – a Past Master of the WCMC, who brought the best part of five decades of industry experience to the role. Across roles with the likes of PA Consulting, Spicer and Pegler Associates, and Richmond Group, Markham spent the last three years linking management consultants and academics with each other and other stakeholders interested in developing the performance of management consultants.

As of January 2021, however, the CMCE will see Nick Bush step into the position of Director. Succeeding Markham, Bush is a management consultant who helps organisations deliver outstanding results for their customers through better strategies, plans and delivery.

Speaking on the news, John Pulford MBE, Master of WCoMC, said, “Livery Companies have traditionally had educational objectives for their profession. We thank Past Master Calvert Markham for his vision and energy in the foundation of CMCE which is now a key component in our Company’s contribution to the development of the activity of management consultancy.”

Markham added, “It has been a pleasure to work with a team of fellow professionals in establishing the Centre. I hope that it will continue to flourish and grow into a great benefit for consultants and their clients, and for academics and students alike.”

Incoming Director Bush joined the CMCE in 2018 as an Associate Director. Having commenced his career in the late 1970s, Bush brings more than 40 years of experience to the role. Among other employers, his working life has included spells with Sema Group, CSC Index, and BT, where he helped them move into new internet-enabled business areas. More recently, after a period working in financial services, he has specialised in helping non-profit organisations deliver effective change.

Bush said of his new challenge, “The Centre is a community that brings together not just management consultants but also their clients, academics and business schools – in fact all who have an interest in management consultancy. I will continue to build on the foundation of events, research and intellectual resources that Calvert has established over the last four years, to create a network that enables its members to make a step change in the value that consulting assignments deliver.”
