Alpha FMC has launched an Environmental, Social and Governance & Responsible Investing practice, in response to growing demand from asset and wealth managers seeking to place sustainability at their core.

Euan Fraser, Alpha FMC’s Chief Executive Officer on why the specialist consulting firm is adding another practice to its portfolio. “We are seeing environmental, social and governance (ESG) & responsible investment as a top strategic priority for so many of our clients globally. This topic has evolved at a speed unparalleled by anything we have seen in recent times, with changing client and regulatory demand impacting every function in our clients' businesses.”

According to data sourced from Statista, Europe’s market for sustainable and responsible investments is booming, having grown in value of investments by nearly €4 billion to around €14 billion by the end of last year. Against this backdrop, “we are delighted to put forward a dedicated team that can support our clients with their response,” Fraser said.

Alpha FMC’s new wing brings together its existing expertise in the field, with around 20 practitioners joining the practice to kickstart its operation. “They have already been working on environmental, social and governance and responsible investment programmes at clients,” explained Vanessa Bingle, one of Alpha FMC’s seniors in the unit.

The firm has to date worked on dozens of projects in the space, spanning the entire operating model of investment organisations, with types of initiatives ranging from benchmarking and advisory, to planning and implementation. Alpha FMC’s consultants also help its clients with embedding an ESG mindset and way of working across the entire value chain, and with putting in place the technology foundations that underpin these changes.

With a standalone practice, Fraser and Bingle expect to be able to better serve clients’ needs through a more channelled approach to skills & capabilities, thought leadership and collaboration in the broader ecosystem. Meanwhile, it will also better position the practice to “serve a greater number of clients.”

“By applying our skillset and experience to sustainable & responsible investment, we can support the investment industry in its transition to a more sustainable way of investing for the future,” they concluded.

Last year Alpha FMC – a publicly listed consultancy – launched an ETF & Indexing practice.
