Pete Acloque joins BDO as partner in its resources and energy team
Professional services firm BDO has strengthened its natural resources and energy team with the appointment of a new Partner. Pete Acloque previously spent two decades with a Big Four firm.
The UK audit market is currently undergoing a series of painstaking changes, as watchdogs attempt to challenge the dominance of the Big Four on the industry, and improve the standard of accounting work across the country. BDO is one of a handful of mid-tier professional services firms vying to benefit from the new competition rules – and is looking to boost its expertise across its auditing offering in order to do so.
The latest move from the firm has seen Pete Acloque join the firm as an Audit Partner. As an ACA qualified accountant with almost 20 years of assurance, transaction and IPO experience, he also has an energy and mining sector specialism, gained from working with a natural resources based portfolio of clients and a background as a geologist.
At BDO, he will now specialise in advising director level professionals within the natural resources and energy sector on a range of business matters, including building stakeholder trust and transparency.
Acloque said of his appointment, “As the debate around audit reform continues, I am excited to be joining a firm that has a resolute focus on quality and is successfully demonstrating its role in providing greater choice and competition to the top end of the market.”
“Even before I joined, I really identified with BDO’s unique culture where everyone is encouraged to be themselves. Despite the majority of staff continuing to work remotely, I am looking forward to getting to know and working with my new team, while supporting our clients in one of the most challenging periods businesses have ever faced.”
The new Partner arrives at BDO from Big Four firm PwC, where he spent the last 19 years of his career. Former roles held in the company include a spell as a Manager of Transaction Services – coordinating and reporting to a client on the status of seven Rio Tinto divestments – and later, as a Director in PwC’s oil, gas and mining sector.
Paul Eagland, BDO Managing Partner, commented, “Our natural resources and energy team is already leading within the market, and Pete’s appointment will add even further value to this high-achieving team. Despite the challenges the outbreak of Covid-19 has brought, our focus on quality remains. We are proud to be investing in the best talent and technology within our audit practice to maintain our high standards and help our clients succeed.”
