Cornerstone Research promotes Can Celiktemur to Principal

Can Celiktemur, a London-based advisor at Cornerstone Research, has been promoted to Principal.

Celiktemur has been with Cornerstone Research for three years, having joined the economics consultancy from rival Compass Lexecon, a subsidiary of FTI Consulting. 

The new Principal specialises in the application of advanced economic modelling and statistical techniques to complex litigation and arbitration matters. He has worked on issues related to merger control, abuse of dominance, and cartel follow-on damages, as well as market investigations, serving corporate clients as well as the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, the Competition Commission of South Africa, and the European Commission.

His industry experience covers agribusiness, automobiles, consumer electronics, energy (natural gas and solar), healthcare, and online retail. Projects he has worked on include: 

Merger control

• Analysed auctions and bidding markets to evaluate win-loss ratios for a European manufacturer
• Assessed natural gas production and transmission networks as part of a European merger

Abuse of dominance

• Assessed the impact of most favoured nation clauses on consumer welfare for an online retailer
• Conducted market definition analysis in a matter involving gas pipeline networks 

Cartels and damages

• Analysed economic issues in connection with a lost profits damages estimate in the consumer electronics industry
• Evaluated the competitive effects of disputed clauses in a solar energy joint-venture arbitration

Market investigations

• Modelled the effects of proposed price caps on consumer welfare in gas and electricity markets
• Applied economic modelling to assess prices and insurance premiums in private healthcare 

Outside his consulting work, Celiktemur is the co-author of a book on merger control and previously was a teaching fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
