Craig Reid and Paul Turner have been named Directors in Mazars’ Deal Advisory teams in Glasgow and Edinburgh respectively. The appointments came as part of five hires in total, as Mazars also looks to ramp up its accounting and tax services in Scotland.

International auditing and advisory firm Mazars has rapidly developed its client base across Scotland, attracting numerous new clients to the firm via the networks of its members in the local market, and provision of bespoke tax planning solutions. Recently, this growth saw Neil Strong – one of the architects of this growth – rewarded with a promotion to Partner, as the firm looks to continue its expansion in the region.

Another way Mazars hopes to bolster its growth in the region is via the appointment of two new Directors to its Deal Advisory practice in Scotland. The hires are focused on serving entrepreneurial businesses, a key area of focus and growth for Mazars’ offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth. Year-on-year growth in this sector is currently 11%.

Glasgow-based Craig Reid takes up a Directorship in Mazars following a 14-year career in the professional services industry. Having spent four years with RSM, latterly as an Audit Senior, Reid joined Cefetra in 2009. He went on to hold senior positions with Nexus Chartered Accountants, Morgan Stanley, and French Duncan, before opting for a new challenge with Mazars this Autumn. In his new role as Director – Accounting and Business Advisory, Reid will focus on building Mazars’ brand across Scotland, with an emphasis on utilising technology to provide business owners with financial information to effectively run their companies.

In Edinburgh, meanwhile, Paul Turner has been with Mazars since 2014, after 8 years with RSM Tenon (now RSM UK) – where he began his career as an Audit Trainee. In his role with Mazars, he provides expert M&A advisory services to entrepreneurial businesses, management teams, banks and private equity houses to support them through a wide range of corporate transactions including company sales, corporate acquisitions, buy-outs and fund raising. As Director, he will continue to build on Mazars’ Deal Advisory offering in Scotland, providing market-leading advice to stakeholders in entrepreneurial businesses.

Speaking on the news, Senior Partner Phil Verity said, “People are at the heart of our business, and in a shifting regulatory and economic landscape, we remain committed to building a leadership team for the future. Our ambitious plans are built on a foundation of nurturing talent throughout the organisation and ensuring that we reward our high performers. These promotions represent the breadth of experience, entrepreneurial outlook and focus on clients to which we all aspire”.

The appointments of Reid and Turner come alongside two other additions to Mazars’ senior team in the firm’s Scottish Tax team. Sean Cockburn has also been named a Director in Mazars’ Edinburgh office, alongside newly promoted Partner Jennifer Allison.

Laura Clarkson, Scotland Office Managing Partner, remarked, “With these promotions and this appointment, we are emphasising our commitment to serving entrepreneurial businesses, both in Scotland and across the UK. Since the opening of our new Glasgow office last year, our team has continued to grow, and we’re keen to maintain our strong momentum in the years ahead. We’re proud to represent a 50:50 gender split at Partner level in Scotland, and will continue to focus on giving our team opportunities to progress to leadership roles.”
