Strategia Worldwide appoints two new Senior Advisors
Risk management consultancy Strategia Worldwide has announced the appointment of two new industry leaders to its Senior Advisory Panel. Tom Albanese arrives with extensive experience from the mining sector, while Melissa Parke brings two decades of know-how from international law and relations to the firm.
The interconnected nature of modern business leaves many enterprises open to a host of negative impacts, including risks which they did not even consider were related to their operations. Even holistic risk planning will only see companies half-way to safety, since things can go wrong quickly in a rapidly changing business environment. This makes the rigorous testing of plans essential.
Strategia Worldwide is a consultancy which helps its clients survive in this eternally shifting state of play. Formed by two former British military figures, Strategia Worldwide helps business leaders understand the interconnectedness of risk, and how they can combat it, while advocating war games to test how those plans stand up when put into practice.
The level of complexity involved in assessing the risk of supply chains for British firms is set to dramatically increase in the coming months, with the culmination of Brexit supposedly on the horizon once more. As risk consulting experts prepare for a busy period, then, Strategia Worldwide has bolstered its advisory team with the appointment of Tom Albanese and Melissa Parke. Joining as Senior Advisors, the duo will further add to the diverse experience of the firm – underpinned by rigorous military methodology – enabling it to work with clients in complex and volatile environments.
Sir Richard Shirreff, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Strategia Worldwide, said, “I am delighted to announce the appointment of two new members to our Senior Advisory Panel; The Honourable Melissa Parke and Tom Albanese. Tom and Melissa have joined Strategia to provide expert guidance on mining, international development and human rights amidst a growing acknowledgment of the importance of managing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks, both in mining and further afield.”
Prior to joining the firm, Parke served as an elected Member of the Australian Parliament for nine years and as Minister for International Development under the Labor Government of Kevin Rudd. Before entering politics, Melissa worked as a senior lawyer in the United Nations for eight years, during which time she worked in Kosovo, Gaza, New York, Lebanon and Yemen. She brings two decades of experience in international relations, human rights, governance and democratic development to Strategia Worldwide. Parke holds a Master’s degree in Public International Law from Murdoch University.
Albanese meanwhile arrives from a very different sector, having gained a wealth of mining experience from his time at Rio Tinto, the second-largest global diversified mining company, where he was a member of the board, and later Chief Executive Officer. He held the role for almost six years, before becoming Chief Executive Officer of Vedanta Resources, a global diversified resources company, until his retirement in August 2017. Albanese has a Master’s in Mining Engineering from the University of Alaska
Remarking on the appointments, Iain Pickard, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Strategia Worldwide, commented, “We are very fortunate to have attracted such internationally-respected industry leaders and look forward to working with them to ensure Strategia continues to offer strategic, integrated and comprehensive risk management solutions, in an increasingly complex and competitive global economy.”
