Phil Abram named Chair of KPMG's London practice

27 June 2019 Consultancy.uk

Phil Abram has been appointed as chair of the Big Four firm’s London Region practice and will lead the national market team. Abram has been with KPMG since 1996 and previously led the Big Four firm’s transaction services practice.

For the last four years, Kevin Smith has presided over KPMG’s London Region practice as Senior Partner and Chairman. With over 25 years of experience in leading high performance teams in the UK and overseas, Smith took responsibility for KPMG’s Mid-Market and Private Capital business in London and the South East in 2015, seeing him lead a team of around 100 Partners and 1300 staff across five KPMG offices.

Following the news Smith would be stepping into a wider UK role with KPMG, a hunt for his successor was launched, and has culminated with the appointment of Phil Abram. Having been with KPMG since 1996, Smith was appointed Partner in 2005, and has previously led the transaction services practice as well as the regional deal advisory team.

In his new role, Smith will also lead relationships with a number of London agencies and organisations. These include London First, London and Partners and the London Chamber of Commerce on key policy areas, including London’s role on the world stage post-Brexit.

The announcement comes as KPMG finds itself in a period of change in both the capital city and the UK. Last year, the firm moved its Global Family Business Centre of Excellence from Paris to London, in order to invest considerably in the family business consulting practice, offering access to the firm’s global resources in the area of family business development. At the same time, the firm is restructuring its national auditing wing, following sustained criticism of its performance by the UK accounting watchdog.
