John Madeley joins PA Consulting Group's financial services team as Partner
Global professional services firm PA Consulting Group has expanded its London financial services team with the hire of John Madeley. He arrives having worked as a Director at three of the professional services world’s Big Four, and is the latest of several professionals to join PA from Big Four firms.
As the deadline for Brexit negotiations swiftly approaches in 2019, the financial sector of London is bracing itself for a period of economic uncertainty. The Bank of England anticipates an exodus of around 75,000 jobs from the City’s financial district, while the consulting sector expects a glut of business in 2018, as clients seek external advice on how to best insulate themselves from post-EU turbulence. Meanwhile, the insurance industry is in the midst of preparing for digitalisation, with the aspect of the financial services ecosystem positioned to be both a beneficiary and victim of disruption.
In order to bolster their financial services offering, in preparation for a boom in demand, PA Consulting Group has been working consistently to expand its London operations. At the end of 2017, the firm relocated its headquarters to a larger office at 10 Bressenden Place, in the London Victoria district.
PA has also made significant additions to its talent pool recently. Managing consultant Nitesh Palana joined, having spent six years with Big Four firm PwC, while most recently, former Deloitte Director Christian Norris became a Partner at PA, heading the economic modelling team of the consulting firm as of February 2018.
The firm has continued this expansion of its team with the appointment of John Madeley. The new hire joins PA as a Partner in its financial services team in London, and he will spearhead the development of PA's financial services business across the UK, with a particular focus on the future of insurance.
Madeley is an insurance specialist, boasting an extensive understanding of the issues and challenges facing the industry, thanks to his prior 25 years of experience. His technical expertise covers finance, IT and operations and he has worked with insurance clients in the UK and internationally.
Before joining PA, he was a member of PwC’s insurance leadership team, and his client work covered a broad spectrum including IFRS17 technology and data impacts; post-merger integration and Brexit impact assessments for insurers. Before this, Madeley was also a Director in CFO Advisory for Big Four rivals Deloitte, between 2010 and 2014, following a near-ten-year spell at KPMG, where he also latterly became a Director. In addition to financial services, Madeley has also worked with clients in aerospace and defence and biotechnology industries, where regulation and control have been central to business success.
David Troman, head of PA's financial services practice, said of the appointment, "I’m delighted John is joining our team of experts to help equip our insurance clients to react to diverse new risks, regulatory compliance and disruptive change to be fit for the future.”
Remarking on his new role, Madeley added, "I'm looking forward to working with my colleagues as we continue to build the strength and capability of our insurance team such that we are even better able to serve our clients as they tackle complex business challenges.”
