Arcadis expands Australian footprint with Environmental Strategies
Arcadis has acquired Australia-based Environmental Strategies for an undisclosed sum. The transaction boosts the presence of Arcadis in the country with five offices, as well as grows its environmental professional services offering to clients seeking to clear up valuable brownfield land across, among others, major cities looking for expansion opportunities.
Brownfield land as well as wider contaminated land areas is becoming an issue of increasing contention across Australia – resulting in a growing environmental remediation market. Large tracts of valuable development land, which was previously leveraged for use by heavy industries, remains locked from use due to contamination from heavy metals, and other dangerous pollutants.
Environmental Strategies is a Sydney, Australia, based professional services firm focused on supporting clients deal with environmental issues, from contaminated land remediation and environmental investigations to environmental management and environmental auditing. The firm was established in 2009 and has since expanded its footprint to offices in Canberra, Newcastle, Perth and Melbourne, as well as associate operations in Adelaide, Brisbane, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Europe. The company generates turnover in the order of AU$9 million.
Arcadis has in recent years, the consultancy reports, developed a range of test methodologies and remedial technologies through which it is able to offer services to clients seeking to identify as well as safely and cost effectively restore contaminated land areas for future productive use. The firm’s acquisition of Environmental Strategies, which includes the transfer of all senior leadership and staff, bolsters its environmental consulting practice with deep expertise in the market, says Stephanie Hottenhuis, Executive Board Member at the firm.
"This is an important acquisition for Arcadis to build our environmental capabilities in Australia. Globally, we are a leader in environmental remediation work but, until now, have lacked some of the deep expertise required in Australia. Environmental Strategies will provide Arcadis with the local capacity and capability to deliver significant remediation projects and meet our commitment to sustainable and exceptional outcomes for our local and multi-national clients.”
The move, she says also furthers the firm's Australian and regional growth plan.
