SPIE Group calls in Atos to implement SAP S/4HANA system
German engineering and energy giant SPIE Group has hired Atos to design and implement a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. After go-live, the French-origin technology firm will also be responsible for hosting the SAP S/4HANA-based system over the next three years.
With over 38,000 employees in 38 countries, generating revenues of €5.3 billion, SPIE Group is one of the globe’s larger technical services players in the energy and infrastructure landscape. The firm’s range of services includes Mechanical and Electrical Services, Technical Facility Management and IT-services for buildings, plants and infrastructures.
In a bid to improve the company’s enterprise performance management, SPIE Group recently launched a large scale digital transformation roadmap aimed at transforming its IT infrastructure. One of the main pillars of the plan is the transition to a new, more efficient ERP system. As part of the objective, SPIE has established a programme that will transition its business units in Germany, Hungary, Poland, and Switzerland (5,900 employees; €901 million) to a SAP S/4HANA-based system.
The replacement of the existing systems will, according to the firm’s CIO, bolster efficiency and trim costs through a “central, flexible and agile resource and process planning” across all business units in the region. SPIE will benefit from having a standard ERP solution with fast access to databases, better networking of individual components and more complex methods of analysis, with the data delivering business-relevant information in real-time. The new system will also allow service and field staff access data that is relevant for them on mobile devices – a feat which reportedly will lead to both sales as well as cost synergies.
To lead the design and implementation of the SAP S/4HANA roll out, SPIE has called in the support of Atos. The technology and consulting firm is a long-standing SAP Partner with comprehensive implementation experience, furthermore, Atos’ servers are certified as HANA platforms by SAP, a feat which provided it an edge above competitors during the bidding procedure. “In choosing our IT service provider, one of the arguments in favour of Atos is that it will accompany us every step of the way, from rollout to operation,” says Markus Holzke, Managing Director of SPIE.
Winfried Holz, CEO of Atos Germany, reflects on the deal “We are very pleased to be accompanying SPIE during its digital transformation with the rollout of a forward-looking ERP system. SPIE will benefit from our integrated portfolio of services as well as our long-standing, solid experience in both the SAP environment and in the service industry.”
The rollout of the new IT system is planned to be completed by the end of 2017. From then, approximately 5,500 employees in the region will be using the SAP S/4HANA solution.
