Scottish building services consultancy Hulley & Kirkwood joins WSP
Engineering services group WSP has acquired Hulley & Kirkwood. The building services consultancy brings more than 120 employees on board, and boosts WSP’s presence across Scotland.
Paul Reilly, WSP’s managing director for the UK and Ireland, said, “Completing the acquisition of Hulley & Kirkwood is an important step in strengthening our building services expertise in the UK. Hulley & Kirkwood brings a strong technical reputation, deep sector expertise and an established regional presence, particularly in Scotland. I’m pleased to welcome our new colleagues to WSP and look forward to the opportunities we will create together for our clients and our people.”
WSP is a global professional services firm, uniting engineering, advisory and science-based expertise in one company. With over 11,700 experts in the UK and Ireland and approximately 83,000 professionals operating in over 50 countries, the consultancy works to deliver projects in the transportation, infrastructure, environment, building, energy, water, resources and industrial sectors.
Founded in 1953, meanwhile, Hulley & Kirkwood employs approximately 122 people across seven offices in the UK and has a particularly strong presence in Scotland. The business specialises in mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) building services, with expertise across healthcare, defence, commercial, education and government sectors.
The acquisition brings together Hulley & Kirkwood’s specialist building services expertise with WSP’s broader multidisciplinary offer, strengthening WSP’s healthcare and defence capabilities while enhancing its regional presence, particularly in Scotland, and technical capability across the UK. At the same time, the move expands Hulley & Kirkwood’s regional presence and creating new opportunities for Hulley & Kirkwood’s people and clients.
Michael O’Donnell, director at Hulley & Kirkwood added, “We have amazingly talented and many long-serving engineers at Hulley & Kirkwood because we put staff first when it comes to personal development and career progression. We believe this acquisition by WSP will provide incredible new opportunities for everyone in the business to fulfil their potential and realise their ambitions within a global organisation that, like Hulley & Kirkwood, has always valued excellent service and local delivery for all clients.”
The integration will be delivered through a structured programme, ensuring continuity for clients while unlocking opportunities for growth, collaboration and enhanced service delivery. Any future brand transition will be considered as part of the integration process, but the timing and approach are still being determined.
