Andrew Roberts rejoins HaysMac as director in charity wing

Audit and advisory firm HaysMac has announced the return appointment of Andrew Roberts. Re-joining the firm as audit director, he will be based within its social purpose sector group.

Steve Harper, head of social purpose at HaysMac, added: “Andrew’s return is fantastic news for both our team and our clients. He brings extensive sector knowledge, strong leadership, and a deep understanding of the challenges facing charities and other social purpose organisations today. Andrew is already well-known and highly respected within the firm, and his appointment as Director underlines our continued commitment to developing our talent and supporting organisations that exist for good.”

Total value of charitable donations in the UK equalled their post-pandemic high in 2025. However, according to data released by His Majesty’s Revenues and Customs (HMRC), the volume of people donating declined, raising concerns as to how sustainable this rise would be in the long-term. Elsewhere, the biggest survey of pension scheme funding in the UK third sector – carried out by First Actuarial – recently took in data and insight from 300 UK charities. It found that around seven-in-ten have less than £10 million in their defined benefit scheme, leaving them open to higher running costs and limited insurance options.

In January 2026, HaysMac celebrated its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of delivering exceptional service, fostering talent, and making a positive impact in the social purpose and wider business community. In his new role as director, Roberts will be working alongside Harper to further strengthen HaysMac’s support for charities, not-for-profits, and education providers, as the firm continues to invest in the growth of its social purpose practice.

Having previously spent five-and-a-half years at HaysMac, most recently as a senior manager, Roberts led the audits of large international charities, fundraising charities as well as independent schools, building a strong reputation for delivering high-quality audit and advisory services tailored to organisations with a clear social mission. He joined RSM as an associate director with the accounting and financial reporting team in 2025, and spent the last year helping the firm look after charity and not for profit clients.

Commenting on his return to HaysMac, Roberts added, “I’m delighted to be returning to HaysMac at such an exciting time for the firm, with it having turned 25 last month. HaysMac has a genuine commitment to the Social Purpose sector and a culture that truly aligns with my own values. The firm’s focus on long-term relationships, technical excellence, and making a positive impact is what drew me back, and I’m really looking forward to working again with such a talented and collaborative team.”
