M&A advisors support August Equity with acquisition of Higgs

As August Equity continues to expand its professional services portfolio, it has secured a deal to purchase Higgs. The acquisition was supported by PwC, Travers Smith, RSM, Equator & Lockton.

Founded in 1875, Higgs is a UK headquartered legal firm. The firm has since grown from a small high street practice into a leading single-office legal services provider, serving more than 3,000 clients. Its 250 professionals offer expertise across six core practice areas: business services, private client, personal injury and clinical negligence, dispute resolution, property, and family law.

With a 150-year heritage, the West Midlands-based firm is led by a highly committed and ambitious management team with deep sector expertise and a clear vision for continued growth. Helping to deliver on that front, it has taken on investment from August Equity.

August Equity is a private equity firm specialising in supporting buyouts and growth in essential services and B2B software. It’s Fund VI backs high quality management teams in services, software and technology businesses with high organic growth and inorganic potential.

Looking ahead, August’s backing of the Higgs team will provide capital to focus both on developing its existing people and to continue the recruitment of top-quality talent. Higgs will also pursue M&A opportunities which expand both the firm’s regional and national presence and breadth of service lines. To date, Higgs has completed two small acquisitions – for Lewis Onions in 2024 and M.R. Timms in 2025 – both of which have further strengthened its position in the regional market.

New investment

Nick Taylor, managing partner of Higgs, commented, “We are delighted to partner with August Equity as we embark on a dynamic new phase of growth. Their backing enables us to expand our services, add resources, embrace innovation, and enter new regions in a rapidly changing legal market – all the while remaining dedicated to delivering legal excellence for our clients. With August’s support, we will build on our long-standing reputation, invest in our people, and sustain the core values that have defined our firm’s success for 150 years.”

Higgs was advised by Rothschild & Co for corporate finance, Squire Patton Boggs for legal and MHA in financial matters. Arrowpoint Advisory’s Business Services sector team advised Higgs on its investment as well.

Will Evans, managing director at Arrowpoint Advisory, added, “We are delighted to have supported the Higgs team on this important milestone for the firm. The opportunity for capital to be deployed effectively into the UK law firm market is exponential and the Higgs teams have built a superb business that will no doubt go from strength to strength with August’s support.  We wish them all the best of luck.”

August Equity was meanwhile given legal advice by Travers Smith, commercial and financial advice by PwC, tax support by RSM, technology services from Equator, and insurance by Lockton.

The deal follows August Equity’s recent exit of AAB to Goldman Sachs Alternatives, which more than tripled in size under August’s ownership, to £100 million in revenues. Elsewhere, the group took on ownership of the Superbia Group, as it sought to find similar success stories in the consulting sector.
