Accounting and auditing firm BDO has named two new partners in its UK wing. Jamie Smith and Omar Ali join the firm’s partnership in Bristol and London respectively.

Paul Eagland, managing partner at BDO commented, “These appointments are a key part of our ongoing investment in our service offerings and resources. We pride ourselves on delivering a high quality, partner-led service for the businesses we serve. Jamie and Omar both bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the firm and will be a great addition to their respective teams at BDO.”

Smith joins BDO as partner in the financial services audit team within its Bristol office. He will lead the financial services audit practice in the western city. He brings almost 20 years of experience to the role, having worked with PwC to provide audit and associated assurance services to businesses across the financial services sector.

Speaking on his change via LinkedIn, in a post with over 400 engagements, Smith said, “I leave [PwC] with many memories of fantastic people, clients, challenges and successes. Thank you to all the colleagues and clients who I have worked with over the years and of course to my family for all their support. I’m now looking forward to a couple of weeks of relaxation… before starting my new role as an audit partner at BDO UK, which I cannot wait to get into!”

Ali meanwhile joins the firm as a partner in the audit team. Based in London, he arrives with significant experience of leading national and international teams to deliver on large audits within the technology sector. Prior to joining BDO, Ali worked with KPMG, where he spent more than two decades in its Russian and UK wings.
In a LinkedIn post with 200 likes and comments, Ali added, “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Audit Partner at BDO UK!”

BDO is currently undergoing a period of manager change across its senior management. Earlier in 2024, professional services firm BDO announced the election of its new managing partner, following a vote by the firm’s equity partners. Mark Shaw will take on the role when Paul Eagland concludes his maximum second term in October. In July, Shaw also announced his new leadership team to take office when he ascends to the firm’s top job in October.
