MoneyGram Haas F1 team selects EY for data solution

EY has become the latest professional services firm to be enlisted to support the technological efforts of a Formula One team. The Big Four firm will now help MoneyGram Haas to implement its Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain solution.

The biggest names in racing have long looked to the consulting sector for technical support. Deloitte has been working with McLaren’s Formula One outfit to capture and analyse data to optimise car performance. KPMG has also previously worked with the company to help McLaren Group – which owns the racing team – to help transform its digital services. Elsewhere in the industry, Cognizant is a title sponsor of Aston Martin’s Formula One team, while TCS provides technology and data services to Jaguar’s Formula E racing outfit.

Now, as it looks to find new competitive advantages on and off the track, MoneyGram Haas has become the latest F1 team to tap expertise from the consulting sector. EY will now provide advisory services to support Haas adopt greater system functionality through the Microsoft Dynamics platform. The mandate will involve the configuration and development of Microsoft Dynamics utilising the EY Rapid Foundation service – a pre-built Microsoft Dynamics solution with leading practice processes that will accelerate the deployment of the solution.

Tom Capocci (Haas F1 CFO), Nigel Powell (Haas F1 Enterprise Applications Manager), Alex Corps (EY Partner, Technology Consulting), John Unsworth (Haas F1 ERP Programme Manager), Ayao Komatsu (Haas F1 Team Principal), Saptarshi Chakraborty (EY Director) and Shwetank Sahai (EY Solution Architect)

Ayao Komatsu, team principal of MoneyGram Haas F1 Team, commented, “We’re excited to collaborate with EY as we begin our journey to adopt greater system functionality through Microsoft Dynamics. The platform has the potential to be a game changer for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team by elevating our operational efficiency and empowering us to further embrace cutting-edge technology. The expertise of the EY team to help implement the solution, as well as laying the foundation for our future growth and innovation, will help us to achieve our aim of positioning MoneyGram Haas F1 Team at the forefront of technological advancement in the sport.”

The road ahead

Debuting in 2016, Haas – which signed a title sponsorship with MoneyGram in 2023 – was the first American constructor to compete since the unrelated Haas Lola outfit raced in the 1985 and 1986 seasons. As the team looks to improve on its 2023 season result, where it finished 10th in the constructor championship, EY’s solution will enable Haas to harness the untapped potential of their data – be that technical or performance data – which can be used utilised for machine learning and AI.

The platform will also enable Haas to access new functionality using the Microsoft Power Platform. These include the ability for mobile devices to approve transactions on the go, a warehouse solution allowing barcode tracking of car components throughout the supply chain, and use of the Microsoft Azure Data Lake to store historical, transactional and other data for reporting and analysis purposes.

Alex Corps, EY partner in technology consulting, shared, “It’s a real privilege to be working with MoneyGram Haas F1 Team and supporting them to solve complex challenges across their finance and supply functions, as well as providing greater agility and flexibility for their staff – whether they are trackside or back at the factory.”
