The Sports Consultancy helps Volleyball World with bids
Volleyball World has launched its bidding process to select the host city for the FIVB Men’s World Championship and FIVB Women’s World Championship in 2025 and 2027. The organisation will be supported by The Sports Consultancy, which will help to run the structured bidding process.
Volleyball is the fourth most popular sport globally, with more than 800 million fans and high participation across the world. In the US for example, it is one of the only sports currently not seeing a decline in school participation – alongside golf – while a study from Research Reports Global suggests that the global volleyball market could grow from $294.9 million in 2021 to $440.6 million by 2027.
Volleyball World is a partnership between the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and the CVC Capital Partners looking to capitalise on that momentum. Founded in 2021, the organisation hopes to drive growth, innovation, and investment in volleyball around the globe.
One important way in which Volleyball World is looking to boost engagement and investment in the sport, is by rolling out an innovative new bidding process for hosting rights of the sport’s premiere international tournaments. The FIVB Volleyball World Championships, held from August to October, represent the pinnacle of international volleyball, attracting 32 nations to compete for the ultimate glory over a thrilling 17-day period, and World Volleyball has launched a bidding process for the men’s 2025 tournament and women’s 2027 tournaments – with the FIVB inviting all 222 National Federations to express their interest in hosting an event.
Running such a massive operation requires external support though. Volleyball World has partnered with The Sports Consultancy – an internationally known advisory firm – to organise the collaborative bidding process, with The Sports Consultancy also inviting event organisers and host cities to express interest.
Volleyball World CEO Finn Taylor said, “We are excited to be working alongside The Sports Consultancy to find dedicated and passionate host cities for the upcoming editions of the FIVB World Championships. The Championships deliver countless economic and social benefits, offering a significant return on investment to the host city. Through our partnership with The Sports Consultancy, we have full confidence in discovering passionate and dedicated host cities that will take the Championships to new heights.”
With their increasingly broad appeal, the World Championships come with a major financial impact for host cities. Previously, they have delivered a host city impact of up to €150million for countries welcoming an influx of domestic and international visitors who immersed themselves in the vibrancy of the local culture, enabling these cities to share their unique experiences with a global audience. These include the Netherlands and Poland, Japan, Italy, Germany and Slovenia.
Speaking on how the firm is helping to streamline the bidding stage, Robert Datnow, co-founder and managing director of The Sports Consultancy, added, “We are delighted to be continuing our work with Volleyball World to create a range of competitive procurement processes, highlighting the many public and private sector impacts and returns on investment, to secure world-renowned hosts for the FIVB World Championships both men and women’s in 2025 and 2027. We have a long history of articulating the accepted significant economic, destination marketing and societal value of hosting these Championships and of successfully securing over 160 iconic hosts for some of the world’s best-known events, over the past 17 years.”
