Portman and Compliancy Services rebrand as Cosegic

Portman Compliance and Compliancy Services have rebranded as Cosegic. The move comes a year after the two firms merged together, in a deal that created a firm of more than 60 professionals.

2022 saw a new alliance between Hitchen-headquartered Compliancy Services – a portfolio company of private investment office Ethos Partners – and London-based Portman Compliance. The merger aimed at enabling Compliancy Services – which as its name suggests, provided clients with financial services compliance expertise – to double the size of its specialist funds team, while creating a unified firm of 60 staff, working with over 800 clients around the world.

A period of intense regulatory change has seen companies more regularly turning to consulting firms for help, when looking to comply with new laws. As a result, the deal came following rapid growth for both firms, with average annual revenues rising at around 20% year on year, for the last five years.

Speaking at the time, Philip Naughton, Chief Executive of Compliancy Services, said, "With increasingly complex regulation, businesses are seeking multi-sector, specialist partners to guide them, as they grow and develop, through all aspects of their compliance journey. By bringing together Compliancy Services and Portman, we will dramatically increase our specialist capabilities in the funds sector.”

One year later, the combined entity has finally decided to rebrand its unified operations under a new name: Cosegic. The new moniker looks to reflect the ways in which the firm has continued to build out its resourcing, services and offerings over the last 12 months, as it looks to help its clients confidently navigate regulation in a way that will keep their vision and objectives intact.

Nancy King, founder of Portman Compliance, who has since headed up a new specialist funds division with the firm, noted, “Our partnership has been more successful than I could have hoped or imagined and has enabled our funds capabilities in particular to flourish. The rebrand represents the final stage in this evolution and fully demonstrates what we are capable of, working together.”

A release from the firm on LinkedIn further explained how the new identity helps tell clients what they need to know about Cosegic. Identifying four key areas which are “The Cosegic Difference”, the post asserted that the firm now delivers a 360-degree perspective of regulatory affairs with a more informed position on FCA compliance than its competitors; direct, proportionate advice thanks to its range of expertise; an understanding of how compliance can help firms to improve their overall performance; and how confidence in compliance can also help build for long-term, “visionary growth”.

Naughton added, “When the opportunity presented itself to work with Nancy and the Portman team, I knew that together we could shape the current compliance services sector experience for the better and we have started that journey. We are very much looking forward to making more positive change together in the coming years as Cosegic.”
