Unilever boss Alan Jope joins Accenture board of directors
Alan Jope has joined Accenture’s global board of directors. As a Non-Executive Director, he will sit alongside nine other experts, including CEO Julie Sweet, to advise on the firm’s international policies.
“Alan is a dynamic leader with vast expertise in the consumer goods industry and deep experience driving change through sustainable business at a global scale,” said Julie Sweet, chair and CEO, Accenture.
With the appointment, Accenture’s board now comprises 10 directors, nine ofwhom are external and independent, while Sweet is the board’s only internal director.
She added, “Alan will bring valuable perspective and insight to our board and our company as we continue to execute on our strategy and create 360° value for all our stakeholders.”
As the incumbent CEO of Unilever, Jope brings almost four decades of knowhow from the fast moving consumer goods sector, having joined the firm in 1985. In his current role with Unilever, Jope is responsible for leading one of the world’s largest consumer goods businesses, with presence in over 190 countries, serving an estimated 3.4 billion people every day. Prior to being appointed as CEO, he alsoserved as President of the Beauty & Personal Care Division, and worked in leadership roles in North America for 14 years and Asia for 13 years.
Under his guidance, Unilever has also become a recognised leader for sustainability practices. To that end, Jope has also been appointed to serve on the Accenture board’s Nominating, Governance & Sustainability Committee.
He will be subject to re-appointment at the next Accenture annual general meeting of shareholders. With the last one of those having taken place in February, that will take place sometime in early 2024.
