PA Consulting has appointed a new Global Head of Public Sector. Shaun Delaney has spent the last two decades with the firm, and steps up from his previous role leading its economic development work.

The public sector currently faces a number of historic, systemic challenges. Under-resourced government departments face the impacts of Brexit, Covid-19 and the increasing impact of climate change, while having to manage slender budgets, and reckon with a tightening labour market.

Working to help work around these issues, PA Consulting’s public sector experts combine problem solving knowhow with insights from across the public and private sectors. They work closely with government departments, local leaders and policing and borders organisations to create a better living and working environment for citizens.

For the last 10 years, the practice has been helmed by Mark Brett – a PA veteran of more than 25 years. During his time at the top, he has advised on a number of large scale commercial deals within public and private sectors. This includes £2.3 billion worth of contracts for smart metering infrastructure in the UK. However, after more than a decade, he is stepping down from the role.

Tracey Countryman, Head of Markets, PA Consulting said, “I would like to thank Mark for his many years of inspiring leadership at PA. His work helping clients navigate multiple challenges across the sector and the disruption of the global pandemic has been invaluable and has firmly cemented PA’s leading reputation.”

As PA looks to build on the success of the department under Brett, it has announced the appointment of Shaun Delaney as its Global Head of Public Sector. He will now lead the team across the UK, Europe and the US.

Countryman added, “Shaun is someone who has unrivalled sector insight and experience, a real desire to increase collaboration across our geographies and teams and is passionate about developing and driving others towards success. He possesses all the right attributes to lead our public sector team to even greater success.”

During his career at PA, Delaney has been instrumental in supporting clients to achieve their goals and deliver some of the most exciting and challenging public sector work. Since arriving with the firm 19 years ago, he has led work across a number of Regional and UK Government bodies, including the Ministry of Justice, Communities and Local Government, Welsh Assembly Government, Department for Education and Home Office. He currently leads PA’s Economic Development work with clients such as Department for International Trade, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Delaney has also led PA’s work on the UK Vaccine Taskforce, including working with global pharmaceuticals and the UK Government to lead the procurement and supply of vaccines. His 10 years of experience in the public sector in various roles including in the NHS and Department for Health proved particularly useful in this respect.

Looking ahead, Delaney noted, “I’m proud and privileged to have the opportunity to lead PA’s public sector team and build on the fantastic success we’ve had under Mark’s leadership. Our team helps governments achieve the unachievable. I look forward to reinforcing PA’s market leading reputation in the sector and guiding the team through the next stage of our growth journey.”
