BDO appoints Radeep Mathew and Ed Gibson as tax partners
BDO has strengthened its tax expertise with two senior hires. Radeep Mathew and Ed Gibson join the firm’s partnership as BDO prepares for a busy year advising clients on how to access developmental tax incentives.
With the Covid-19 pandemic having forced firms to adapt rapidly to home-working, or to pivot their business model altogether, 82% of businesses agree that the crisis accelerated innovation in recent years. Around 25% of all firms already said that this acceleration was “drastic” – but as the UK economy prepares for recovery, the number of firms having to dramatically re-arrange their firms to come out ahead is likely to rise further.
Key to that will be companies’ ability to tap into the UK’s R&D tax incentives and innovations infrastructure. BDO is the fifth-largest professional services firm in the UK, and as its clients face a myriad of complex tax legislation and changes, including a major reform to R&D and a new global tax deal, the company is bolstering its tax offering with two Partners.
Ed Gibson joins the firm in the North West, arriving from Deloitte. Coming to BDO as an International Tax Partner, he has already spent almost 20 years advising clients on their global tax requirements. His role in the coming months will see him utilise this expertise, advising clients on a wide range of international tax issues including those related to overseas expansion, cross-border transactions and international restructuring.
Radeep Mathew meanwhile also becomes a Tax Partner with BDO – this time based in London. He comes to BDO from consulting firm Leyton, and brings over 15 years of experience advising a wide range of clients from owner managed businesses to larger corporates with an international presence. His new work with BDO will involve a focus on advising clients on issues around R&D tax incentives and innovation strategies.
Speaking on the news, Paul Eagland, Managing Partner at BDO, commented, “Our ongoing investment in high-quality appointments allow us to help our clients deal with these challenges, as they grow their businesses. Both Ed and Radeep have a great deal of experience in their respective areas and I have no doubt that they will be brilliant additions to the team at BDO.”
The consultancy is also looking to bolster its M&A offering, amid an on-going spike in demand for that service line across the UK. In December 2021, this saw Jonathan Rowan appointed as a Partner with BDO, bringing more than two decades of technology and media experience to the firm’s due diligence offering.
