CGI announces contract extension with Elexon
CGI has announced the extension of a contract providing Elexon with IT and business processing services. The five-year contract continues a relationship between the firms spanning two decades.
With 80,000 consultants and other professionals across the globe, CGI delivers an end-to-end portfolio of capabilities. These include strategic IT and business consulting, systems integration, managed IT and business process services and intellectual property solutions.
For the last 21 years, CGI has worked with Elexon, a utilities organisation which helps maintain the wholesale electricity market. Elexon compares how much electricity generators and suppliers said they would produce or consume with actual volumes and work out a price for the difference and transfer funds accordingly.
Having secured a new five-year extension to supply Elexon with IT and business processing services, CGI will continue to operate and manage all of Elexon’s core industry applications at least until 2027. This includes the provision of Elexon’s customer service desk, management of a number of core industry processes including end-of-day settlement, infrastructure and network hosting, in addition to application management and development services.
Mark Aston, Senior Vice President for CGI in the North of England and Australia said, “We are delighted to continue supporting Elexon’s delivery of the critical services that keep the UK’s electricity market running. This extension builds on a relationship going back over two decades, during which we have successfully delivered numerous industry changes and upgrades, as well as providing IT and Business Process support. We are excited about this opportunity to extend our services to support Elexon’s digital transformation strategy.”
The £44 million contract will also see CGI continue to deliver a wide range of IT services supporting Elexon’s digital transformation strategy. This includes supporting Elexon to deliver a range of new transformational projects within a multi-vendor ecosystem to support their customers and the industry change needed to realise the benefits created by the UK’s smart meter roll-out.
Peter Stanley, Director of Digital Operations for Elexon added, “As a key partner to the electricity industry, investment in our core IT infrastructure is vital in ensuring and delivering outstanding service. Our contract with CGI allows us to benefit from their significant sector expertise and capability as we continue to implement scalable infrastructure. This will help us to continue to serve at the heart of the energy industry, building a path to net zero.”
