James Emmett appointed senior advisor at Oliver Wyman
Global management consultancy Oliver Wyman has welcomed James Emmett aboard, as a Senior Advisor. Ugur Koyluoglu, Global Head of Digital Assets, Oliver Wyman, commented that his experience will compliment Oliver Wyman’s services “in the areas of technology and financial services.”
Koyluoglu expanded, “James’ experience as a practitioner in banking and in digital assets is rare in its combination. This will enhance our ability to support clients in designing and delivering their strategies.”
As a Senior Advisor, Emmett will advise at the intersection of finance, technology, regulation, and law, with a particular focus on digital assets and blockchain platforms. He will carry out these duties while remaining as a non-Executive Board Director and Senior Advisor at Diem Networks, the Swiss operating company of Diem (formerly Libra), where he previously served as Managing Director and CEO.
Before joining Diem, Emmett spent 25 years with international bank HSBC, most recently as Chief Executive of HSBC Bank plc & Europe. There, he had responsibility for HSBC’s Wholesale Bank in the UK, alongside HSBC’s operations across Continental Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa and Bermuda. Prior to his CEO role, James held a number of positions at HSBC in business, operations, and strategy covering Wholesale and Retail banking across EMEA, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.
Speaking on his new challenge, Emmett remarked, “Oliver Wyman’s profound understanding of financial services and thought leadership on the impact of disruptive technology makes them a very natural partner for me to extend my own impact in this area.”
On top of his experience in industry, Emmett also brings notable regulatory experience to Oliver Wyman. He has served on the UK’s Payment Strategy Forum, the UK’s International Trade & Industry Group, the Banking Commission of the International Chamber of Commerce, the WTO Expert Advisory Group on Trade Finance, the B20 Trade & Investment group and the boards of the Banker’s Association in Turkey and New York State.
