ERM acquires sustainability consultancy Stratos
Sustainability consultancy ERM has acquired advisory Stratos to strengthen its provision of sustainability advisory services. Over 30 experts join ERM as part of the deal.
Global financial markets and governments are pulling economies toward net-zero carbon transitions and more sustainable and inclusive practices. As a result of this, Stratos President Stephanie Meyer said that there is a growing demand for sustainability strategies underpinned by strong technical analysis and engagement.
She added, “We are very excited to be joining the ERM team. Together with ERM and our Indigenous partners, we can offer this full suite of services to support these transitions.”
Founded in 2000, Stratos is a Canadian origin firm, working across industry, government, indigenous organisations and civil society. Its acquisition adds more than 30 Canada-based sustainability and ESG practitioners to ERM’s firm of more than 5,500 professionals. The company brings deep expertise in ESG performance and risk management, stakeholder engagement, science and innovation, conservation and regulatory excellence, as well as a commitment to advancing Indigenous reconciliation through meaningful partnerships and collaboration.
Keryn James, CEO, ERM said, “As organisations look to transition to a low-carbon economy, they look for partners that can help not only strategise solutions, but also implement them. With the acquisition of Stratos, we are further strengthening our capabilities and capacity to support clients in Canada and beyond as they navigate these increasingly complex issues.”
ERM is one of the world’s largest sustainability consultancies, and has been consistently looking to ramp up its offering in recent years. Winning the backing from investment fund KKR in May 2021 allowed for the acceleration of this. The purchase of Stratos builds on previous acquisitions to that end, including Element Energy, RCG and E4Tech in the summer alone.
