National older person charity MHA has re-selected Capita to perform checks, provide training and develop policy related to health and safety for 214 of its locations around the country. The new contract will run for three years.

The MHA, one of the UK’s national older person charities, provides accommodation, care and support services to more than 16,000 people across the country, of which 2,000 are living independently in retirement living complexes, 5,000 in care homes and 9,000 in their own home. The charity was founded in 1943 and has a Methodist approach to care. The charity today has more than 7,000 staff and 4,000 volunteers.

Capita has, since 2012, supported the MHA across 173 of its sites around the country. The recent announcement has seen the firm win a new three year contract that this time covers 214 of the charity’s sites. The deal will see the consulting firm support people across the living situation of those taken care of by the charity, including those in residential care homes, retirement living complexes, as well as across the community support centres for those people whom live independently at home.

Capita’s responsibilities under the deal include: performing audits related to health and safety; run fire risk assessments; review and update policies of the MHA related to risk assessments; health and safety, processes and systems; and provide ‘bespoke training’,  which includes corporate health and safety training for managers and maintenance workers. “We recognise the importance of ensuring that all of our sites are fully compliant, not only for the safety of our residents, but also for our employees,” explains Annie Webber, Director of Quality at MHA. “Capita’s expert support allows us to focus on our core competencies – delivering first class services to around 16,000 older people.”

Peter McGettrick, Director of Health and Safety for Capita’s Property and Infrastructure business, says about the new contract: “The fact that MHA has decided to continue its relationship with Capita is testament to the quality work delivered by the team. We provide our clients with the assurance that they are fully compliant in their health and safety processes and procedures and we can also work with them to develop bespoke training to meet their individual needs.”
