Thomas Pugh joins RSM as UK Economist
Thomas Pugh has joined RSM’s UK wing, working as its new national economist. He brings more than a decade of public and private experience to the role – including a spell as an analyst with HM Treasury.
Based out of the RSM’s London Farringdon Street headquarters, Pugh will specialise in the UK’s real economy business markets. As UK Economist for RSM, he will focus on the middle market, covering all aspects of the UK ‘real economy,’ and provide in-depth analysis and economic forecasts to middle market business leaders and the media.
The appointment will strengthen the firm’s analytical capabilities to address the rapidly changing needs of its clients. It also grows the company’s capacity to provide cross-border market economic analytics that are aligned to its existing capabilities in the US – which are led by RSM US Chief Economist Joe Brusuelas.
Prior to working with RSM, Pugh spent eight years with Capital Economics. He was the UK Economist of the independent economic research company, and specialised in analysing the national economy and financial markets, as well as commodity markets. Before that, he also spent three years with HM Treasury – focusing on banking regulations, and latterly working as a Household Sector Analyst. He has a First Class Honours BA in economics and finance from the University of Manchester.
The last year was a difficult one for most aspects of the professional services industry, with a few key exceptions. In its last financial year, RSM’s consulting wing saw the biggest growth in demand of 15%, as it supported middle market business leaders in their response to the pandemic, the reorganisation of their business operations.
RSM is a multinational network of accounting firms, forming the sixth largest accountancy professional services network in the world by revenue. The firm’s UK entity provides audit, tax and consulting services to middle market businesses, and is the seventh largest business advisory firm in the country.
