Mercer acquires Comptryx, specialist in HR metrics

Global consulting firm Mercer has acquired Comptryx, a US-based firm that provides pay and workforce metrics. The acquisition expands Mercer’s capabilities in the compensation & benefits space. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Comptryx was formed in 2010 by Roger Sturtevant, Joe Duggan and John Cunnell, individuals with extensive corporate and consulting experience in HR and compensation. Since its inception Comptryx has rapidly made the headlines in the HR arena, in particular in the technology industry. The firm’s global salary survey brought a new standard to salary surveys, by among others ensuring a more efficient process and higher quality output.

Comptryx’s metrics tool lets companies benchmark their organisation on both pay and workforce metrics, including payroll costs (the largest single expense in most companies), attrition, new hire rates, gender ratios, and rewards for top performers. By quantifying variances from market norms, HR officers can use the tool and data at a strategic level, adding value to human capital decision-making.

For Mercer, one of the globe’s largest HR consultancies, the addition of Comptryx aligns closely with its focus on becoming, or arguably remaining, a leader in talent and rewards consulting. “The technology industry is a growing market for Mercer, and the acquisition of Comptryx strengthens our consulting insights to this sector by ensuring the most robust products are utilised to achieve informed, data-driven talent management programs,” says Ilya Bonic, President of Mercer’s Talent business. “With Comptryx’s highly-regarded workforce metrics, Mercer has the ability to compare total compensation and benefit costs across all jobs within an industry and assess the implications these costs have on an organisation’s overall pay program, which will benefit our clients worldwide.”

Joe Duggan, co-founder of Comptryx, says that the joining of forces will be “of great value to clients”, adding that Mercer and Comptryx share a similar DNA, which he dubs a “commitment to excellence.” As part of the integration, Comptryx has been rebranded as Mercer Comptryx.
