Manchester-based employment law advisory firm Peninsula Group has appointed Kate Palmer as Director for its HR advice and consultancy wing. The promotion will see her sit on the company’s board of UK directors.

“I’m pleased to announce Kate’s appointment,” said founder and Group Managing Director Peter Done. “The breadth and depth of her expertise and experience will continue to make a significant contribution to our business, and I believe her passion for Peninsula will help us further develop and deliver our outstanding services for the benefit of business owners across the UK.”

Palmer has been with the business for nearly 20 years, with her appointment and career progression showing that “through hard work, grit and determination, your efforts will not go unrewarded in the Peninsula Group,” said Done.

Palmer joined Peninsula as a Duty Consultant, following a spell as HR Manager with ISS Facility Services UK. While her background was in HR and employment law, she soon became involved in all aspects of service provision within employment advice and how that integrated with all other areas from IT development to client retention. By 2017 this saw Palmer become the firm’s Head of Advisory.

The promotion will see Palmer take on responsibility for the management and leadership of Peninsula’s HR advice and consultancy departments, and she will be involved in all aspects of HR and employment law advice, while sitting on the firm’s board of UK directors.

Speaking on her promotion, Palmer said, “I feel incredibly privileged and excited to be part of the leadership of Peninsula at such an exciting and challenging time. For the rest of this year and into 2021, we will be continuing to advance our super service and provide much-needed support and guidance to businesses in the pandemic. With new restrictions being announced daily, right now, it’s tough to be a business owner. The legal changes are complex, and the long-term consequences of making a bad decision could be severe.”

Established in 1983, Peninsula Group provides professional services to small businesses across the UK. Initially specialising in consulting on employment law, the company has since expanded to provide services including tax and payroll advice, employee assistance programmes, and HR and health & safety training.

In 2019 the group declared an annual turnover of £270 million, on the back of rocketing sales in the UK which rose by 20% year-on-year, and while 2020 has been a difficult year for many consulting firms, Peninsula remains determined to build upon its momentum.

Last month, Peninsula Group named Moira Grassick as the leader of its Irish division.
