Grant Thornton has appointed a new Director for its forensic and investigation services team in the North of England. Daniel Turner will be based in the firm’s Manchester office and heading a team of 12 covering Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds.

With a growing numbers of firms issuing profit warnings and heading toward administration procedures in the UK, the importance of forensic accountancy cannot be understated. Forensic accountants need to not only be skilled at identifying any discrepancies in financial data collected from both private and public institutions, but must also be effective communicators as well – helping to identify the problem factors which cause the downfall of firms, and helping to prevent them from happening elsewhere as a result.

In anticipation of a heightened level of forensics work in 2020, Grant Thornton has appointed a new director for its forensic and investigation services (FIS) team. Daniel Turner will be based in the firm’s Manchester office, heading a team of 12 across the North, covering Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds.

Commenting on his appointment, Turner said, “After London, Manchester has one of the largest legal services community in the UK and handles a number of high profile disputes and investigations. Given the volume of transactional activity and new business in the region, combined with the strength of the Grant Thornton brand, we have an opportunity to benefit a range of industries across their respective lifecycles.”

Turner will draw on 17 years of experience in accounting for his new role, having specialised in disputes and investigations. The chartered accountant started his career in Manchester, before moving to the Middle East to help a number of firms establish and develop their forensic presence, including BDO and PwC. He joins Grant Thornton from FTI Consulting, where he worked for over two years as a Managing Director based in Dubai.

Grant Thornton’s North West practice is led by Managing Partner Carl Williams, and has over 490 people based across its North West offices. The wing of the professional services firm works with hundreds of growing clients each year and is committed to working with its clients to provide them with the support they need to unlock their growth potential.

Commenting on Turner’s appointment, Williams, said, “Forensic services is one of our most rapidly developing service lines and as we look to expand upon our offering, we must continue to invest in our team. Daniel’s exceptional and wide-ranging experience blends everything from corporate transactions to litigation and arbitration support. I have no doubt his track record and great contacts will prove instrumental in driving our growth across the North of England.”
