Dan Melley named Mercer UK Commercial Leader of Investment Solutions
Mercer has announced the appointment of Dan Melley as UK Commercial Leader of Investment Solutions. The move sees Melley return to Mercer, having left for Winton Capital in 2015.
Daniel Melley first joined Mercer in 1998, following a two-year stay with Bessemer Trust in New York at the start of his career. During his first 17 years with the firm, he led the launch and development of Mercer’s UK Investment Solutions business from inception to a $20 billion AUM business. He worked in both the New York and London offices of Mercer, holding a series of leadership positions, before exiting in 2015.
Melley went on to spend a year with London-based Winton Capital, a $30 billion hedge fund, where he had served as Global Head of Consultant Relations, before Putnam Investments announced his arrival 2016. He joined the firm in a newly created senior position, based in London, where he was responsible for the firm's efforts serving institutional clients and investors in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
Four years later, Melley has judged that the time is right to return to Mercer, bringing his 22 years of experience in institutional asset management and commercial sales back to the firm’s office in the UK capital. As UK Commercial Leader of Investment Solutions, Melley will report to Mercer’s Global Commercial Leader of Investment Solutions, Mick Dempsey, and join the firm’s International Investment Solutions Leadership Team alongside the UK Leadership Team – presided over by UK CEO Sylvia Pozezanac.
Dempsey commented, “We are delighted to welcome Dan back at such an exciting time for our business. We continue to see increased demand from UK pension funds, insurers, wealth managers, and endowments and foundations, to help them enhance governance, reduce complexity and improve their investment outcomes, as well as lower both risk and cost across their portfolios. Dan brings a wealth of client and market experience to the role. Under his leadership, our clients and the broader UK market is well placed to leverage the full value and impact of solutions and services.”
Speaking on his return, Melley added, “Mercer has continued to grow and innovate in the fiduciary management market, providing effective solutions to meet UK pension schemes’ challenges. Its ability to provide tailored investment solutions has seen its client base increase, not only within the pensions industry, but also across a wider asset owner market such as insurers and wealth management. I’m delighted to be re-joining the team and look forward to continuing to drive its success.”
